Garut, 24 Oktober 2025 — Faculty of Tarbiyah and Education (FTK) UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung establishes academic collaboration with Fakultas Pendidikan Ilmu Sosial, Bahasa, dan Sastra Institut Pendidikan Indonesia (IPI) Garut in a Community Service (PkM) program themed “Integration of Linguistic, Literary, and Language Teaching Studies in the Form of Critical Literacy.”

The activity was held on Friday, October 24, 2025, as a form of inter-institutional collaboration aimed at strengthening the synergy between academic theory and its practical implementation within the community.

This community service activity involved lecturers and students from both institutions, focusing on developing the community’s critical literacy skills—particularly in utilizing language and literature as a medium for social reflection and the cultivation of critical thinking. Through an integrative approach combining linguistic, literary, and language pedagogy studies, the program was designed to enhance literacy awareness and strengthen participants’ analytical abilities in interpreting various texts and social phenomena.

During the implementation of the program, participants took part in workshops, group discussions, and text analysis practices that highlighted how critical literacy can be applied both in classroom learning and in everyday life. This activity also served as a platform for lecturers and students to share research findings and experiences in integrating linguistic and literary theories into a more reflective and transformative language learning context.

The collaboration between the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Education of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati and the Faculty of Education of IPI Garut is expected to serve as a strategic step in strengthening academic networks and expanding the social impact of higher education institutions, particularly in the fields of language education and literacy. This collaboration aligns with both institutions’ commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), as well as in strengthening the role of higher education institutions as drivers of social change through education, research, and community service.

As a follow-up, both faculties plan to develop advanced training programs and collaborative research focusing on critical literacy and pedagogy grounded in literary and linguistic studies. The program evaluation was conducted through participant feedback, which indicated a high level of satisfaction with the relevance of the materials and the practicality of the training methods. Based on these evaluation results, both parties agreed to establish this program as an ongoing annual initiative, expanding its participant scope and adopting increasingly innovative approaches to promoting critical literacy development within the community.
